Computer Science Event

Is your motto, "New year, new career"? Is 2017 the year you're going to switch from a job to a career? If so, join Zip Code Wilmington and The Microsoft Store at Christiana Mall on February 16, 2017 to:
· Network with some incredible female technologists;
· Hear why women make great programmers;
· Learn what a career in software development looks like;
· Explore how to break into the tech industry; and
· Be entered into a raffle to win a NuVision Signature Edition PC tablet!

Although this event is tailored for women, all are welcome! Hear from Amanda Lange, Microsoft Technical Evangelist, as she describes her career journey in technology. She'll share her experiences as a woman in the game and application development space, give advice on how to get started in tech and coding, and give you info on how to access Microsoft tools like Visual Studio. There will also be a Q&A, open discussion, and networking opportunity.

Amanda Lange is a Technical Evangelist for Microsoft in the Philadelphia area. She has worked on projects with Michigan State University, West Virginia University, and Schell Games studios in Pittsburgh. She is a gamer and well rounded developer who is also interested in health, app development, design, Mixed Reality and Virtual Reality, and unique applications for the Internet of Things. Opportunity for Girls interested in CS.

Hello CSTA Members,

ProjectCSGIRLS is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to close the gender gap in computer science and technology through running a national computer science competition for middle school girls and workshops around the country. Our competition challenges girls to be makers and use tech to develop projects with social impact.

Registration is now open for the 2017 ProjectCSGIRLS Competition for Middle School Girls! Registration for the 2017 ProjectCSGIRLS competition closes February 15th, 2017. The deadline to submit projects is April 15th, 2017. Mentors will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis so encourage students to register early!

The ProjectCSGIRLS Competition for Middle School Girls challenges participants in 6th-8th grade to build something using computer science and technology that can help solve an imminent social problem under one of three themes - global health, a safer world, and intelligent technology. Judges will select semifinalists, finalists, and national winners. All finalists will receive an all-expenses-paid to DC for our national gala, the ultimate celebration of girls in computing, in June of 2017 during which they will participate in workshops, listen to guest speakers, tour tech companies, participate in a formal awards ceremony, and showcase their projects to the public.

A link to the online registration form can be found here.

Please help us reach thousands of middle school girls across the country through the 2017 ProjectCSGIRLS Competition for Middle School Girls by encouraging your students to register for the competition and have the unique chance to build a tech project with social impact!

If you would like to get involved as a mentor for competition participants, please sign up here. If you would like to make an individual donation, please see our Donate page. If your company would like to sponsor ProjectCSGIRLS, please contact sponsorus@projectcsgirls.com. Any and all questions can be directed to info@projectcsgirls.com
