Human and Civil Rights (HCR) contests- Writing, Art, Multimedia Computer Technology

Each year, the Delaware State Education Association honors Delaware public school students whose writings, artwork, and computer technology accomplishments honor and celebrate the diversity of our society through DSEA's Human and Civil Rights (HCR) contests.  This year's theme is Because of Them, We Rise: Students are empowered to achieve, to realize their own dreams and desired accomplishments, to rise to meet the challenges before them because of the work and deeds of others in the realm of human and civil rights.

The three contest categories include:

Grades K-12 art contest (drawing, photography, mixed media, painting, textile & fiber, sculpture, jewelry, metalwork, and computer generated art)

Grades 5-12 writing contest (prose, poetry, drama)

Grades K-12 multi-media computer technology contest (video, slideshow, animation, cartoon, short film)

All entries are due by Thursday, March 16th.  All contests will be judged by DSEA members, both active and retired.  We look forward each year to the creativity and inspiration of our student entries.  We hope to see you and a winning student from your school at our awards banquet in May.  Please encourage students to participate!

DSEA's Human and Civil Rights Task Force also awards two Delawareans, one DSEA member and one individual outside of the organization, for outstanding achievements in Human and Civil Rights. Do you know someone in your community who takes particular interest in social justice issues?  If so, now is your chance to let others know how valuable this person is in championing human and civil rights.

Below are the links to two informational flyers about the HCR contests.  The HCR Bulletin Board Flyer is to be posted in your teacher's lounge and it highlights both the contest and community award. The HCR Student Contest Flyer just highlights the student contest.  We hope that you will post this flier in your school or classroom, make copies for students, and share this opportunity with others.

Detailed information will be available on the DSEA website at www.dsea.org -the brochure, including the entry form, should be posted in the next week.

All award winners will be honored this spring at our Human and Civil Rights Awards Dinner on Wednesday, May 17th at Dover Downs.
