4/26- Green Penny Project Due.

The United States Federal Mint’s responsibility is the creation of a respected monetary system. Through this system great pieces of art have been created that preserve our history as American Citizens. The United States Penny is in trouble. Some people think that the penny should no longer be made. The federal mint used to create half-pennies, but because of the cost in making them they stopped. Abraham Lincoln Enthusiasts and the Zinc industry (major component of the current penny, in addition to copper) still want the penny to be created and distributed. It will be your role to take the penny I give you, figure out what caused it to turn green, clean it without scratching it, Use inferential analysis to figure out it’s origin (date, and mint) and finally come up with a way to preserve this penny from future desecration. A further investigation would be to figure out what caused the main entrance to Brandywine Springs door to turn green and what can be done to clean and preserve it for future generations of BSS school children.

Great Schools Clean Streams is a clean water public awareness campaign

The county runs the campaign each year to urge residents to dispose of used cooking fats, oils, and grease responsibly. Local families should "can the grease" and put it in the trash instead of down the drain. The county's goal with this campaign is to prevent clogged sewers from overflowing and polluting local waterways.
Take the Pledge

Why Take the Pledge?

Do Your Part for Your School

The schools that collect the most pledges will win cash prizes. They can use the funds for school supplies, student projects, field trips, or any other educational purpose.

Do Your Part for Streams

Keeping cooking fats, oils, and grease out of the sewer system keeps pollution out of our local waterways -- so you can enjoy the cleaner water with your family! It's just that simple.

Every Little Bit Makes a Difference!

Imagine three of these tanker trucks of grease NOT going into the sewer system or local waterways. That's happened last year when almost 2,500 residents pledged to can their grease instead of pouring it down the drain.

Save Money on Plumber Bills

Calling the plumber is an expensive hassle. Stop clogged plumbing before it starts by pouring used cooking oils and grease into a can instead of down the drain.
